On some levels, I guess you can say the economy has effected all living beings on one level or another. This is case in point for a company, Outdoor Adventures, that ran dog sled racing adventures during the 2010 winter olympic games in Vancouver.

After the winter games were over the company expected there to be a boom in their sledding adventure services.  However, they built it, but no one came.  With the impending costs of properly taking care of these animals, employees were advised to find the cheapest way to take care of the problem.  All but 100 animals were able to find a homes, these were the unlucky 100.

In a scene which must have looked like it was straight out of a 1940's Nazi concentration camp, 100 dogs were shot.  One worker had the unfortunate job of tracking down one dog that had his "face blown off and an eye hanging out."

The British Columbia SPCA is now investigating this mass murder of these dogs. Many remark that this is worse treatment than cows recieve.  One of the workers who were employed by the company, has claimed post traumatic stress after helping to do this dirty task.

This really puts a stigma on mushers who really love and treat there dogs as family.  Let's hope that the responsible party is identified, has his/her head examined, and brought to justice.

What is your opinion?
